Bishop Eddie Long apologizes for Ralph Messer ‘king’ ritual

“The ceremony was not my suggestion, nor was it my intent, to participate in any ritual that is offensive in any manner to the Jewish community,” Long wrote in a letter sent Saturday to Bill Nigut, Southeast Regional Director of the Anti-Defamation League, reports the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.

This following the viral video of the January 29th service at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. In the video Rabbi Harold Messer wrapped Long in a scroll before having four assistants carry him around like a king.

In his letter to the Anti-Defamation League, Long “[denounced] any action that depicts me as a king, for I am merely just a servant of the Lord.”

  • That’s a start, but that was offensive to a host of people.

It was more than I expected. There are a host of issues there, of course, but it was nice to see a mea culpa at least once.

I don’t think they knew what they were doing . . . how it would be perceived by the Jewish people. They can’t have known if they were afterwards for upsetting the Jewish people.

Seems more silly foolishness than intentional insult.

I actually agree on the Eddie Long side. His face and body language seemed very hesitant through the whole thing. On the Messer side, I think he’s a fraud. The Jewish sites I’ve seen are repulsed by the way he represents the Jewish side of things.

    Hi Marty,
First things first. It’s Ralph Messer and can we please stop calling him “rabbi” he is NOT a rabbi, never has been one and never will be on and never studied as one and more than likely not a Jew either. He does NOT represent the Messianic Community at large or here locally in Colorado or any other truly humble and genuine “Believer” in Torah or even the Christian community as the G-d of scripture never tells us that pride and self exaltation are fruit of the True Spirit of the Living God.

  • Rhe Ceremony performed by Ralph Messer was not only an abomination to Jews, it was denounced by the Messianic Jewish community which has spoken firmly on this issue at: Ralph messer is a two house rabbi and two housers believe that the white anglo-saxxons of america are the tribe of ehpraim, these white supremacists think the blacks are desended from oahs son ham and cursed by God…!
