Rabbi Ralph Messer offers repentance and explanation [VIDEO]

On Rabbi Ralph Messer’s Facebook page, this following video has been offered. It is lengthy. The first part is the full length service at New Birth. The second part is his explanation of the things that appeared in the 14 minute video that went viral last week. Some links to that video (including the one I posted) are now dead.

My opinion is that this will answer some questions, and raise even more.

    Hey Marty,
For those of us that can’t access the video, would you mind giving your take on the explanation?

I haven’t finished listening to it yet. I went ahead and posted in the interest of being fair and thorough. He’s just reached the part about desecrating the scroll.

    He. Is. A. Fraud.

    End of story

Ralph Messer did something similar with Paula White.

How can you desecrate something that gives so much life by the words inside of it. Are you making an IDOL of the Torah? He didn’t burn it or destroy it. Come on people is it really that bad? It was a picture of wrapping yourself in the word. Follow the commandments of God which are found in the Torah. I mean what is the real issue here. Taking a man and trying to show him how to walk out a redemptive lifestyle or focusing on the fact that he took a scroll the RABBI owns and wanted to paint a picture image? Paul killed so many Christians would you condemn him today? King David committed Adultery and then murdered the adulteress’s husband. Yet, King David was the apple of God’s eye. The BIG picture here is to lift up and love our neighbor and love our God with all our heart, mind and soul. No wonder Jesus himself had such a hard time with the Pharisees and gentiles even 2000 years ago. I am sure Glad God has patience and is faithful to His Covenant because I would be done with mankind by now. God Bless.

Sigh. Go with your gut, ye who saw the first video-gone-viral, who do not want to sit through this current video–Messer is not going to change your first impression. The previous ceremony with Eddie Long was bizzare and goofy, at the least.

If Messer has to produce a 2 hour and 12 minute rebuttal to counteract the criticism, and explain it away by basically saying we all misunderstood him, then maybe he should re-think his skit, since we’re all so dumb and the explanation took longer than the original ceremony. (sort of like, if you have to explain the joke after you tell it–it’s not funny)

In his “explanation” he deftly manages to deflect criticism of himself by focusing only on explaining his metaphors. We “got it” Ralph, we just don’t want it.

Marty, which part was the repentance–I just couldn’t listen to it all…

      Chuck-
I think he says it twice, but the first time is from 1:05:30-1:05:45.

He actually spoke longer at that church and had spoken many times before. They didn’t need the long explanation that people who just saw that one clip need.
